Because EDD 7007 was one of my first two courses of my program, and due to the fact that it had been years since I engaged in formal education, I was anxious and excited. I recall reading through the syllabus and making notes for the assignments I could get a head start on. In fact, because of my previous experience building websites, I began designing my website during the first week, even though the assignment was not due for weeks to come.
Realizing that I was fairly new to the formal concepts of distance education, I embarked with an open mind, even though I had some preconceptions. In the end, I left the course understanding the breadth to which distance education applies. I hold tight to the notion that distance represents separations in geography, time, and knowledge either between the learner and facilitator or between the learners. Using this notion, I have recognized the endless application opportunities I have in my work setting, and conversely, how the organization is challenged due to numerous distance situations.

Lesson Plan/Outline |
Lesson Overview
Learner success in distance education is often misunderstood. There is a common belief that learners possess unique learning styles such as visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. However, studies have yet to show a strong relationship between these learning styles and actual learner success. Dillon and Greene suggest that learners, through achievement goals, self-efficacy, and strategy use, possess an aptitude to be successful in any learning environment (Dillon & Green, 2003, p. 239).
Goal
After completing this lesson, the student will be able to identify and discuss various ways learners approach distance learning.
